The building is designed as an open “House of Science”. Its transparent shell links it with its immediate surroundings: overlooking the Insel area to the south and, in the narrowing space continuum to the north, looking over the Bremgarten cemetery park. The basic architectural concept – core and shell – is optimally adapted to the building’s operational requirements. The central core houses the heavy laboratories whereas ‘lighter’ offices and meetings rooms are spaced out in an airier layout in the surrounding area. As an ensemble, the project excels with its simple, linear yet flexible spatial design.
